India is a land of ancient culture and civilization, intertwined with its centuries-old philosophies and religions. India has over 1.2 billion people and consists of Hindus (85%), Muslims (12 %) , Christians (1%) and other religions (2%). The people are as diverse in language as they are in their religion. There are 1400 major languages and over 1600 dialects (English is a second language in major cities).

The Caste system, Unique to India, has created millions of poor people known as the untouchables. More than 200 million people live in the throes of despicable slavery, abject poverty, blinding illiteracy and crippling unsanitary conditions.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
